Pyunkang Yul: The Brand Review

Pyunkangyul Best Skincare Item Set scaled

When it comes to skincare, I am one of those people who will try anything and everything to see if I can find the perfect products. Pyunkang Yul, a Korean brand that bases its formulas around oriental medicine, is one of the brands that I stumbled upon. This brand has a habit of making repeat visits into my skincare routine. Pyunkang Yul is known for their clean, simple formulas, that even pregnant women can use.

Wait, should I really use oil on oily skin?

Just because you have oily skin, doesn’t mean your skin is actually hydrated. In many situations, your skin could be overproducing oil, and getting acne because your skin is actually dry. If you clean your skin, and use ingredients to dry out your oily skin, you may not be replacing that moisture that you lost. This, in turn, causes your skin to produce even more oils to try and hydrate itself. After washing your face, by using a well-made, balanced oil on your face, you can restore some of the oils that you sloughed off. Additionally, well-formulated face oils will not clog your pores and leave you hydrated, sans that greasy feeling.

 The Formulas:

Pyunkang Yul has the following ingredients that are good for your skin:
  • Coptis Japonica Extract – a plant used in Eastern Medicine, know for it’s anti-inflammatory properties
  • Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract – a known antioxidant that also has anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties
  • Jojoba seed oil – A know humectant that keeps skin moisturized
  • Shea butter – another known moisturizer that also has anti-inflammatory properties
  • Beeswax – a humectant with exfoliating properties
  • Macademia Seed Oil – an oil that is a known emollient which is very hydrating on the skin
  • And many more, these are just the ones that I saw from the formulas I checked
Pyunkang Yul doesn’t have the following ingredients that are “bad” for your skin :
  • Fragrance
  • Crazy long lists of ingredients, all of their formulas, out of the ones I checked, almost all of them are less than 15 ingredients long
  • Condomogenics
  • Irritants
  • Essential Oils

K-Points: 10/10

So, for beauty reviews, unlike my album unboxings, I will be much harsher on because this can directly impact your health, where buying K-Pop albums does not. It just impacts your wallet. As such, all of my beauty reviews will be out of 10 points. I will not be going over that number.

Honestly, there is nothing bad that I can say about Pyunkang Yul. All of the formulations are excellent, and it is actually the brand that I go to whenever my skin is having a bad day or week. Because of their more simple formulations with effective ingredients, I have been able to calm multiple allergic reactions to other brands as well as stop irritation and eliminate redness. For me, this enough is a good enough reason to have some of this brand on hand at all times.

What are the Koreans saying?

I was digging through reviews on 화해**, a Korean skincare app that lists out the ingredients of products from many brands for people to look through as well as post reviews. When looking through some of the reviews, finding a negative review was quite challenging. Like me, the Koreans loved their generally simple formulas that were full of nothing but good ingredients for the skin. They agreed that all the products are very moisturizing and have improved the appearance of their skin.

Where Can I Buy It?

Whenever I buy K-Beauty, I do shop at a couple of different places. If you want to see all of the places that I shop at, you can check them all out here.  If I am picking up Pyunkang Yul specifically, I will always pick it up on Style Korean. Style Korean is a website that carries at least 100 K-Beauty brands and offers free worldwide shipping. Although Style Korean isn’t specifically a part of this program, a number of the other sites in the list can use Rakuten for cash back off of your purchases on their site.

What is Rakuten?

Rakuten is a cashback site that gives you money for purchases you may have already made. They even have an extension for multiple browsers so when you go to a website that uses Rakuten, it will automatically pop up the cashback button to make sure you are saving money. I use this all the time, and I got over 80$ back from them for purchases I was going to make anyway. That’s about 3 more albums I can buy!

If you’ve never used Rakuten before, you can use this link to get $10 when making a qualified purchase of $25 when using Rakuten. You will also get whatever percent cashback is being offered from the site you are purchasing from.  Sephora, typically has 4% cashback, through here. Ulta typically has 3%. These are just some of the companies on the website, but there are other major retailers are on there as well!
