Pyunkang Yul Eye Cream Review

Pyunkang Yul Eye Cream scaled

After my little brand review of Pyunkang Yul. I thought I should take some time to begin and solidify all of your thoughts of me as a Pyunkang Yul junkie. Today, I wanted to talk about a product that actually saved my eyes after a terrible reaction that I had to another eye cream (review coming on that in a few weeks). Today, we are going to be talking about the Pyunkang Yul Eye Cream

Whenever I buy K-Beauty, I do shop at a couple of different places. If you want to see all of the places that I shop at, you can check them all out here.  If I am picking up Pyunkang Yul specifically, I will always pick it up on Style Korean. Style Korean is a website that carries at least 100 K-Beauty brands and offers free worldwide shipping. Although Style Korean isn’t specifically a part of this program, a number of the other sites in the list can use Rakuten for cash back off of your purchases on their site.

What is Rakuten?

Rakuten is a cashback site that gives you money for purchases you may have already made. They even have an extension for multiple browsers so when you go to a website that uses Rakuten, it will automatically pop up the cashback button to make sure you are saving money. I use this all the time, and I got over 80$ back from them for purchases I was going to make anyway. That’s about 3 more albums I can buy!

If you’ve never used Rakuten before, you can use this link to get $10 when making a qualified purchase of $25 when using Rakuten. You will also get whatever percent cashback is being offered from the site you are purchasing from.  Sephora, typically has 4% cashback, through here. Ulta typically has 3%. These are just some of the companies on the website, but there are other major retailers are on there as well!

Rakuten also has a Google Chrome extension that will tell you as soon as you log onto a site that has cashback with a little pop-up in the corner, so that you can ensure you are saving money!

Things to know about Pyunkang Yul Eye Cream:

This product is formulated with the following ingredients that are good for your skin:
  • Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract – a known antioxidant that also has anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties. This is the very first ingredient on the list, so it is the highest concentration.
  • Shea Butter – This is a well-known hydrating ingredient because of its high concentration of fatty acids and it is chock full of vitamins. Because of these two, shea butter is great at giving long-lasting hydration to dehydrated and dry skin. It will make your skin soft and supple.
  • Licorice Root Extract – is a skin brightening ingredient that inhibits the production of melanin. IT also soothes irritation, and evens out the skin tone.
This product is formulated with the following ingredients that are “bad” for your skin:
  • Lauryl PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl dimethicone – an ingredient that is only mildly bad for the skin, and is in a very low concentration in this product. It is a silicone polymer that is water-soluble that is meant to help prevent skin irritation and make the product smoother. In high concentrations, these
  • PEG-100 Stearate – PEG is simply an abbreviation of Polyethylene Glycol, and the 100 after it refers to the molecular weight of the PEG. Any product in the PEG line there is the potential to be carcinogenic, especially when used in higher concentrations. This isn’t because of the PEG-100 Stearate itself, but due to contamination that can occur. In this product, there is an incredibly low concentration because it is at the end of the ingredient list. Here, it is simply an addition to the formula to make it function better around the eyes.

In this product, I would say neither of these ingredients should cause too many problems because of their incredibly low concentration. Both of these ingredients are just things that I want to point out are in the formulas.

K-Points: 10/10

So, for beauty reviews, unlike my album unboxings, I will be much harsher on because this can directly impact your health, where buying K-Pop albums does not. It just impacts your wallet. As such, all of my beauty reviews will be out of 10 points. I will not be going over that number.

Quite frankly, I have nothing bad to say about this product. When I started using this product, my eyes were, red, puffy, and inflamed from the product that caused my bout of irritation. Once I noticed it, that night, I put this cream around my eyes, and the next morning, the puffiness was gone, and the redness had dimmed quite a bit. After a few days, all that was left was a bit of lingering dryness that was completely resolved by the end of the week.

This formula is so gentle and amazing for the eyes that I will recommend it to anyone. Absolutely no issues with this formulation whatsoever. It’s incredibly hydrating and keeps my eyes feeling moist all day long. This is perfect for those with dry skin. That being said, I have one issue with the packaging. Although I love the fact that they give you all of these little single packets so that one day gets one little packet, I find all of the little packets incredibly wasteful and not very good for the environment. I wish this was packaged in a way that was a bit more sustainable, or at least made 2 versions: one that was bigger, and one that was the little packets. I love the tin can that it comes in though it is beautiful!

What are the Koreans saying?

I was digging through reviews on 화해**, a Korean skincare app that lists out the ingredients of products from many brands for people to look through as well as post reviews. The Koreans absolutely loved the tin can for the packaging. They also love the little packets as they are perfect for traveling. That being said, they also complained about the wastefulness of the little packets. They said the formula felt like sherbert, although some wished it absorbed a bit more quickly. Thankfully, with the ongoing pandemic, many of us are working from home, and the absorption rate shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

What are your favorite skincare products you’ve tried during the pandemic, K-Nuggets? Let me know in the comments down below!

사랑합니다!

**Note: 화해 still only exists in Korean, but some of the products can be searched for in English.
