Super Junior D&E Danger Review

Super Junior DE Danger

My boys are back! I always live for new music from SUJU, and when it was announced that Super Junior D&E Danger was coming out, I was all over it. They’re so much fun and their music is always so good that there is no way that I cannot live for it.

I ordered a copy of the album from Music Plaza in LA. This is a link to the exact one I’ve ordered. I got my copy for 16.99 plus shipping. If you want a 5% discount, you can use this link here.

You can also get a copy of of EBay. I found one here for 19.50, plus free shipping. If you are not in the US, this may prove to be cheaper than Music Plaza. Plus, with eBay, you can save a little bit of money by using the E-Bates extension on your browser, as it will save you 2% on all album purchases, which definitely adds up.

What is E-Bates?

E-Bates is a cashback site that gives you money for purchases you may have already made. They even have an extension for multiple browsers so when you go to a website that uses Ebates, it will automatically pop up the cashback button to make sure you are saving money. I use this all the time, and I got over 80$ back from them for purchases I was going to make anyway. That’s about 3 more albums I can buy!

If you’ve never used EBates before, you can use this link to get $10 when making a qualified purchase of $25 when using EBates. You will also get whatever percent cashback is being offered from the site you are purchasing from.  Sephora, typically has 4% cashback, through here. Sokoglam typically has 3%. These percentages Many other major retailers are on there as well.

Can I get it on Amazon?

Yes! You can pick up a copy using this link here for about 21 dollars (not as good of a deal), with free shipping if you have Amazon Prime.

If you don’t have Amazon Prime, you can get a 30-day free trial using this link here. I will not lie, the free 2-day shipping, plus all of the free music and videos are totally worth it. I also now use it for books for my Kindle Paper White too, and it is honestly a life saver. They have a program called Kindle Unlimited where you can check out 10 books at a time, read them, and put them back in the Kindle library. The program cost $7.99 a month, and you get the first 30 days for free with this link.

How do I read this post?

I recommend that you put the album on in the background, and read through it while listening to the track that I am talking about. It will help you understand what parts of the music I’m referring to when I talk about different instruments and different vocal parts. This is what I recommend for all of my song reviews.

Super Junior D&E Danger Track By Track:

Danger

I did already watch the music video for this track. You can watch my reaction here:

After posting the video, I did listen to the track a number of times. I love how this track is an electronic rock song. It’s extremely intense and you could rip some sick dance moves to it. Per usual with an SM track, the mixing on the track is fantastic. It’s all clean and well balanced. If I had to decide what my favorite part of this track is, I would have to say it is the intensely dramatic strings that come in in the hook to the chorus. It’s a nice shift from the crazy electronic beats.

This song is a huge shift from Super Junior D&E ‘Bout You. I love how it’s a heavy dance track, and honestly it is unlike anything that Super Junior has ever done. This is why SUJU is always at the forefront of K-Pop. They’re really innovative and unafraid to take risks and be different. I do really enjoy this track, but I definitely was not a fan of the face tattoos.

Jungle

Okay, so the beginning of this track reminds me every so slightly of Mr. E from Red Velvet’s Summer Magic. Why you ask? I have no idea, but for some reason the drum beat feels similar. Besides that, this track is definitely more along the lines of what I expect from Super Junior D&E. It’s upbeat. It is fun. Per usual, it is also a dance track.

That, of course, is until you get to the chorus where it breaks down into this crazy heavy beat. The beat in the chorus completely contrasts with the verses, and I was totally not expecting it. Am I mad at it? Not in the slightest! It’s really awesome! This song would have made a great single, but I understand why they didn’t pick it. It isn’t shocking enough, and is too standard and typical electro-pop to stand out in the charts. Still enjoy it!

Gloomy

There was actually a video spoiler for this track, which I did post a reaction to, at the request of one of my subscribers. You can watch it here:

Okay, I love the guitar in the beginning of this track. It’s slick, and sexy and helps maintain the R&B vibe that Donghae and Eunhyuk are going for in this track. At the very beginning, you are immediately hit with harmonies out the wazoo that complete the image. They are sleek, they are tight (potentially 100% mixed), but they sound really nice.

I love how they made sure to add a serious “body roll” track on this album. The level of sexy that this track has is off the charts. That being said, even though I like this track, I definitely like the previous two tracks just a wee bit more. That is mainly based on personal tastes though. For R&B vocalists, I love to hear them done by power vocalists, such as the boys of EXO in the Love Shot album. I love Donghae and Eunhyuk so much, but as vocalists, they’re good, just not what I really love for tracks of this nature.

Watch Out

Okay, I’m totally digging the funk horn line in this track. It’s so much fun, and immediately had me bobbing my head. This track, right here, is another track that I expect from SUJU D&E. It’s funky and easy to dance to. The percussion in this track is contrasted nicely by the other instrumentation. Those differences in levels and tempos make tracks like this especially easy to choreograph.

This song overall is just fast-paced fun. It makes me want to move and groove. For an extremely sexy track about them going after a woman, this is great. I personally would let them chase me down any day… unless they sneak up behind me, then we may have a problem. My automatic reaction when people sneak up on me because of Martial Arts is to either punch of kick someone. Donghae and Eunhyuk don’t deserve to be kicked! Great job on this track, guys!

Dreamer

They’re taking in back a notch on this track for more of an emotional ballad. Yet again, this is a ballad that is incredibly easy to dance to. I expect nothing less from Donghae and Eunhyuk. The piano line in this track is absolutely beautiful. It’s slightly hypnotizing, to be honest. Once you get to the chorus, the easy percussion line is also fantastic.

There is something to be said for such a simple, easy track. There aren’t 50 million intruments in it. What it does have though is everything a ballad needs. It has emotions and dynamics. Eunhyuk and Donghae use slides to evoke emotion. They also use dynamics extremely well through the whole track. For these reasons, I’m a fan.

Sunrise (Korean Version)

This track was originally released on their Japanese album that was released late last fall. It’s bright and fun. The lyrics to the song are honestly adorable! It’s all about how he can’t stop looking at this woman and how she becomes like the sunrise to him. It’s cute and adorable. I love it.

I’m not going to say much else about this track because it was released last year. Just know that I really like it. On top of that, I’m happy that the track was released in a language where I can finally memorize the lyrics, because I understand them.

If You (Korean Version)

This track was also initially released on their Japanese album last year. It’s a nice smooth ballad with lots of strings in it. That being said, I don’t really know if the instrumentation matches the lyrics. It feels a bit too happy to me for a song about him not knowing what to do with a girl leaving him. It feels like it doesn’t match, in my opinion.

That being said, if I didn’t speak Korean and understand the lyrics, I would probably like it a bit more. It just feels more like a love song than a break up song to me. That being said, I enjoy how retro the instrumentation and how it takes me back to my N*Sync days. So, I still enjoy it.

K-Points: 25/5

I’m sorry. I don’t want to knock down Eunhyuk and Donghae on the K-Points at all because I ADORE them and only give them a 25 out of 5. That being said, “If You” didn’t really feel right to me, as the tone didn’t match the lyrics. Of course this is all personal opinion, but since that is the last impression of the album, it is extremely important to have an album go out on a bang, and it didn’t do that for me. That being said, I love every other track on the album, and will happily listen to them.

So should you get yourself a copy of this album? I’m personally of the belief that you can never ever go wrong with any Super Junior album. They are constantly doing something new and innovative with music, so it is always worth picking up. Should you stream it? I definitely think it is worth giving a listen to! Super Junior is always worth your time!
