NEOGEN Cica Repair Snail Cream Review

As someone who suffers with acne scarring and hyperpigmentation, I am always looking for products to help me with making my skintone more even. As such, when I saw that Neogen released their Cica Repair Snail Cream, I knew that I needed to try it. Keep reading to find out what star ingredients the product features, the Koerans’ and my thoughts, as well as where you can pick this product up yourself.

Things to know about NEOGEN Cica Repair Snail Cream:

This product is formulated with the following ingredients that are good for your skin:
  • Snail Secretion Filtrate is a moisturizer and collagen stimulator. It also helps heal the skin and can be an excellent ingredient for those with acne scarring, based off of my experience. This is the first ingredient in the formula, and as such, it should have the highest concentration. There is a post on Labmuffin Beauty Science about this if you would like to learn more about this ingredient.
  • Niacinamide also known as Vitamin B3, is an excellent ingredient for brightening the skin. This is the 3rd ingredient on the list, so we know that there is quite a bit of it on the list.
  • Sodium Hyaluronate  is a moisturizing superstar, that holds 1000 times its weight in water.
  • Adenosine is an antioxidant that has anti-irritant and anti-inflammation properties. Also, this ingredient may also have some antiaging properties that can prevent wrinkles, although there has only been one study on it.
  • Asiaticoside is a derivitive of Centella Asiatica.  Centella Asiatica is an ingredient that is known for it’s wound healing properties. Additionally, it has been known to help with the appearance fo scars, and (although the sample size is small) may help with wrinkles too!
This product is formulated with the following ingredients that are “bad”* for your skin:
  • There are no ingredients in this formula that could cause skin irritation or aggravation, unless you have a known allergy.
Who is this product good for?
  • Those with hyperpigmentation
  • Those with scarring
  • Those with sensitive skin

K-Points: 6/10

So, for beauty reviews, unlike my album unboxings, I will be much harsher on because this can directly impact your health, where buying K-Pop albums does not. It just impacts your wallet. As such, all of my beauty reviews will be out of 10 points. I will not be going over that number.

This product overall is very nice, but for me – that’s it. I think there are more effective products I’ve used for helping my hyperpigmentation and scarring, such as the SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule and products from COSRX. The consistency of the formula was more of a midweight moisturizerOn top of that, this product has a scent, and although this one wasn’t an irritating one, it wasn’t one that I was a fan of. I typically prefer unscented products because I’m relatively sensitive to them.

One final point: I find it very odd that Neogen highlights Centella Asiatica (Cica) as one of the star ingredients of this product, as it is very far down on the ingredient list. It would be more appropriate to highlight the niacinamide in the formula over cica.

What are the Koreans saying?

I was digging through reviews on 화해 (Hwahae)**, a Korean skincare app that lists out the ingredients of products from many brands for people to look through as well as post reviews. Although this product is on Hwahae, it does not have any reviews. So, what does this tell me? The brand does have other products with reviews, which tells me this product is not very popular. It also tell me that for those who are using this product, they don’t have either positive or negative thoughts of this product and that it is just so-so. People are always more likely to comment on a product if they feel passionately about it one way or the other.

Where Can I Buy It?

Whenever I buy K-Beauty, I do shop at a couple of different places. If you want to see all of the places that I shop at, you can check them all out here.  I believe I got this on Sokoglam, plus with Sokoglam, you can also use Rakuten for cash back off of your purchases on their site.

What is Rakuten?

Rakuten is a cashback site that gives you money for purchases you may have already made. They even have an extension for multiple browsers so when you go to a website that uses Rakuten, it will automatically pop up the cashback button to make sure you are saving money. I use this all the time, and I got over $80 back from them for purchases I was going to make anyway. That’s about 3 more albums I can buy!

If you’ve never used Rakuten before, you can use this link to get $10 when making a qualified purchase of $25 when using Rakuten. You will also get whatever percent cashback is being offered from the site you are purchasing from.  Sephora, typically has 4% cashback, through here. Ulta typically has 3%. These are just some of the companies on the website, but there are other major retailers on there as well!

Rakuten also has a Google Chrome extension that will tell you as soon as you log onto a site that has cashback with a little pop-up in the corner so that you can ensure you are saving money!

*I put bad in quotes here because everything is subjective. Just because an ingredient that may have some amount of research on it that it can cause issues in the skin exists in a product says nothing about how it is processed and refined when making the product. It also says nothing about where that particular ingredient came from and the quality of that ingredient. It’s just like with cooking you can have all the same ingredients to start, but depending on what you do with those ingredients, you can get two completely different end products. Liah Yoo, a YouTuber and now the owner of the brand Krave Beauty, made an excellent video talking about this.

**Note: 화해 still only exists in Korean, but some of the products can be searched for in English.
