Etude: The K-Beauty Brand Review

ETUDE House Is Daebak

If you’ve heard of K-Beauty at any point in your life and did a little bit of investigation into K-Beauty brands, Etude, formerly known as Etude House, would be one of the first brands to pop up in your search. As a large, global brand with many sibling brands from the same parent company, Etude House was one of the first to enter international markets and expand its influence. Today, I wanted to do a post highlighting many of the products from the brand that I tried, and which ones I think are worth your time.

Founded in 1985, Etude House, now called just ETUDE is all about creating innovative formulas for the younger, makeup beginners. They try to help people discover their true beauty and help them embrace their imagination. Most of their products are incredibly wearable as they try to ensure most of their products are good for people without much experience.

One thing I will note about this brand, although they do not test on products before their products go on shelves, they are sold in China, so their products can be pulled off the shelves for spontaneous testing in that market. You can read more about K-Beauty and Cruelty-Free products here.

Although I won’t be going through every single product listed here, one by one, I will list out every product that is in these photos, and if there is another post talking about these products, I will provide a link to that post for you to see more.

Who is Etude Good For:

  • People who like a low-maintenance lightweight makeup routine
  • Those who like natural makeup looks
  • Those who like makeup with a bit of natural-looking glitter
  • Those who like skincare with simple, targeted benefits
  • Those who like full coverage, yet natural-looking base makeup
  • Those who don’t want to spend a ton of time putting their makeup on

Who shouldn’t use Etude:

  • Those who consistently go for creative color makeup looks
  • Those who prefer very pigmented eyeshadows
  • Those who prefer incredibly chunky glitters that are more of a statement piece than wearable everyday

My Thoughts:

Over time, my makeup and skincare style has greatly shifted. I used to be very much into constantly wearing incredibly creative, over-the-top makeup looks. As time has passed, I would rather spend my time elsewhere than trying to do creative makeup looks. Brands like Etude enter my makeup and skincare collection more and more because of this shift in my style. The more natural, yet not aggressively over-pigmented colors that are common in the western market, cut down the amount of time that it takes me to do my makeup for the sole reason that I don’t spend as much time blending. Additionally, with western makeup brands, I frequently run into issues where the makeup causes me skin issues, such as hyper dryness, that I don’t run into with Etude.

On top of that, Etude has a collection of very reliable, simple skincare that I know that I can reach for when facing skin issues with their Soon Jung line. When you are constantly testing out products like I am, having these kinds of things on hand at all times is critical. I cannot even tell you how many times brands like Etude and Pyunkang Yul have saved my skin from disaster, or help heal the disaster after it has already struck.

What are the Koreans Saying?

I was digging through reviews on 화해**, a Korean skincare app that lists out the ingredients of products from many brands for people to look through as well as post reviews. Most products, makeup and skincare, have very positive reviews from people. The skincare reviews all seem to talk about how great the product feels and how kind the formulas are to the skin. As for the makeup reviews, there are a number of products that have absolutely no negative reviews. They love the shades. They love that it gives them just a light wash of color that is easy to apply .

Where Can I Buy Etude Products?

Etude products can be purchased in a variety of locations, including many of the places listed in my Where to buy Korean Products list. I have purchased products from them at the following places:

Some of these sites do use Rakuten, like Soko Glam so if you want some extra cashback, you can get that too!

What is Rakuten?

Rakuten is a cashback site that gives you money for purchases you may have already made. They even have an extension for multiple browsers so when you go to a website that uses Rakuten, it will automatically pop up the cashback button to make sure you are saving money. I use this all the time, and I got over $80 back from them for purchases I was going to make anyway. That’s about 3 more albums I can buy!

If you’ve never used Rakuten before, you can use this link to get $10 when making a qualified purchase of $25 when using Rakuten. You will also get whatever percent cashback is being offered from the site you are purchasing from.  Sephora, typically has 4% cashback, through here. Ulta typically has 3%. These are just some of the companies on the website, but there are other major retailers on there as well!

Rakuten also has a Google Chrome extension that will tell you as soon as you log onto a site that has cashback with a little pop-up in the corner so that you can ensure you are saving money!
