SHINee Story of Light Pt. 2 Track by Track:

I Want You

For Pt. 2 of the SHINee comeback they started with an electric funk beat and what sounds like a Marimba. This song has a bit of South American Flare to it. It sounds like something that you would hear at a wedding or as a proposal Flash Mob. Super catchy with a fun, easy to sing chorus, this song made it into all of my playlists within the first ten seconds.

Chemistry

The fun, electronic songs continue! I really enjoy this song too. It has a little bit of an island flare with the instrumentation they use. In regards to the harmonies they use in this song, they are perfection. They add to the song without subtracting anything from the melody. Additionally, you can hear how much fun they had recording this track, as well as all of the tracks on this album, as well as Story of Light Pt.1. It oozes the fun, bright SHINee spirit that we always see with them on every show they have ever graced with their presence. I will note, the first thing I though of was Minho yelling at the cast of Knowing Bros because he is crazy competitive. It was hysterical.

Electric

More electric tracks. Despite the fact that this is the third electric track on here, they all draw from different musical influences. So they fit together without sounding the same. I really like the instrumentation on this track. The track does an excellent job of contrasting the chorus and the verses with the very percussive chorus, and the arpeggios in the verses. It’s a drastic difference that makes this track very unique and even slightly quirky. Yet again, I really enjoy this track. It is in all the playlists.

Drive

This track moves a bit more away from the electric feel of the previous tracks and borders on more of a light rock song, but it still has the electronic sound to it. This time, it is just balanced out with guitar chords. Honestly, my mind right now is a bit baffled at how they managed to make 4 electronic tracks sound drastically different and similar at the same time. Impressive, but they wouldn’t be SHINee if they weren’t

Who Waits for Love

The guitar chords used in the beginning of this track remind me of a James Bay song. They then overlay it with electronic overtones. The interesting thing, yet again, it doesn’t contrast with the guitar in the background. It supplements it in a way I don’t think I have ever heard done before. Leave it to SHINee to combine unlike elements and turn them into something that makes sense and meshes together.

K-Points: 528/5

Not going to lie, I really am in love with this release. Story of Light EP.2 is interesting, and different, but also has elements that everyone can enjoy at the same time. Another thing that is a sign of a good album that this has, when it loops back around to the first track when on repeat, it sounds cohesive. You would only notice that the album started over if you were focusing on the music you were listening to. To be honest, I played it for an hour and a half straight today, and didn’t even notice until I shut the album off. Seriously impressed.

As such, these questions are no-brainers. Should you give the album a listen? Yes. 100%. Should you buy a copy? Absolutely, but you can also hold off as the probability of them releasing a set of all 3 albums is relatively high. I would give it a month or two. They did it with Misconceptions of Us, they could do it again. You still should definitely buy this and Story of Lige EP. 1 though. They are both really good.
