Haruharu Black Rice Bakuchiol Eye Cream Review

I live for a good eye cream. Yes, I understand that they are basically overpriced tubes of tiny moisturizers, but it’s the difference in texture that makes them worthwhile for me. So, when I saw a sale on the Haruharu Black Rice Bakuchiol Eye Cream, I picked it up to try it out for you all. Keep reading to learn more about the product, the Koreans and my thoughts, and where you can find one yourself.

Things to know about Haruharu Black Rice Bakuchiol Eye Cream:

This product is formulated with the following ingredients that are good for your skin:
  • Glycerin is an ingredient in many skincare formulas that hydrates the skin by attracting other water particles to the deeper layers of the skin.
  • Niacinamide is a well-tested and proven ingredient known for it’s brightening and sebum-controlling properties. It can help reduce acne and reduce signs of aging. This ingredient also goes by another name: Vitamin B3.
  • Bakuchiol is an up-and-coming replacement for retinol. In a study in 2019, it was shown that there was no difference in the treatment of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation when comparing retinol to bakuchiol. Retinol (Vitamin A) is far more drying though. This ingredient can help smooth out wrinkles, even out hyperpigmentation, and make pores appear smaller.
  • Orzya Sativa (Rice) Extract is high in amino acids and antioxidants. It is great for brightening dull skin, increasing skin elasticity, and minimizing pores.
  • Adenosine is an antioxidant that has anti-irritant and anti-inflammation properties. Also, this ingredient may also have some antiaging properties that can prevent wrinkles, although there has only been one study on it.
  • Madecassoside is one of the main compounds in Centella Asiatica. Centella Asiatica is an ingredient that is known for its wound-healing properties. Additionally, it has been known to help with the appearance of scars, and (although the sample size is small) may help with wrinkles too!
This product is formulated with the following ingredients that are “bad”* for your skin:
  • There is nothing in this formula that is inherently “bad” for your skin
Who is this product good for?
  • Those with sensitive skin
  • Those with dry skin
  • Those with a sensitivity to retinol
  • Those who want an anti-aging product.

K-Points: 8/10

So, for beauty reviews, unlike my album unboxings, I will be much harsher because this can directly impact your health, whereas buying K-Pop albums does not. It just impacts your wallet. As such, all of my beauty reviews will be out of 10 points. I will not be going over that number.

So, I know that eye creams can be easily replaced by a face cream, but there is something I enjoy about having a different texture around my eyes. I use very thick face creams because I have very dry skin. They take forever to dry, so I enjoy having something that is a different texture around my eyes. This eye cream was very moisturizing and dried relatively quickly, but it also kept my eyes moist all day. This prevented them from tearing up, which often happens to my eyes when they are dry. Overall, from an experience perspective, I was a big fan of this product. As to long-term benefits, besides lovely, moisturized eyes, I’m not sure what else I experienced.

What are the Koreans saying?

I was digging through reviews on 화해 (Hwahae)**, a Korean skincare app that lists out the ingredients of products from many brands for people to look through as well as post reviews. There in only one review for this product on Hwahae. The reviewer talked about how soft and moisturizing this eye cream is. They also mentioned how they liked that there wasn’t much of a scent to the product. That being said, after about a month of use, they aren’t sure what kinds of results they saw besides how moisturizing this was.

Where Can I Buy It?

Whenever I buy K-Beauty, I shop at a couple of different places. If you want to see all the places I shop at, you can check them out here.  Plus, with a number of places where I buy K-Beauty, you can also use Rakuten for cash back off of your purchases on their site.

What is Rakuten?

Rakuten is a cashback site that gives you money for purchases you may have already made. They even have an extension for multiple browsers so when you go to a website that uses Rakuten, it will automatically pop up the cashback button to make sure you are saving money. I use this all the time, and I got over $80 back from them for purchases I was going to make anyway. That’s about 3 more albums I can buy!

If you’ve never used Rakuten before, you can use this link to get $10 when making a qualified purchase of $25 when using Rakuten. You will also get whatever percent cashback is being offered from the site you are purchasing from.  Sephora, typically has 4% cashback, through here. Ulta typically has 3%. These are just some of the companies on the website, but there are other major retailers on there as well!

Rakuten also has a Google Chrome extension that will tell you as soon as you log onto a site that has cashback with a little pop-up in the corner so that you can ensure you are saving money!

*I put bad in quotes here because everything is subjective. Just because an ingredient that may have some amount of research on it that it can cause issues in the skin exists in a product says nothing about how it is processed and refined when making the product. It also says nothing about where that particular ingredient came from and the quality of that ingredient. It’s just like with cooking you can have all the same ingredients to start, but depending on what you do with those ingredients, you can get two completely different end products. Liah Yoo, a YouTuber and now the owner of the brand Krave Beauty, made an excellent video talking about this.

**Note: 화해 still only exists in Korean, but some of the products can be searched for in English.
