Since GOT7 is now a group that we aren’t sure when they will come out with new music as a whole, and we aren’t sure when they will again, I wanted to take a moment to lay out every single GOT7 album and its packaging in the order of release for those who aren’t sure about all of the albums that they have.
If you want to join me on this journey of going through every single GOT7 album and its subgroups (minus the more recent solo releases, as I’m waiting on those to arrive), keep on reading.
The Origins: JJ Project – May 2012
Before we talk about GOT7 and all of their releases, we need to talk about the very first release from JB and Jinyoung (known under his stage name Junior at the time) with their first group JJ Project who debuted in May 2012 with their single “Bounce“. This song is still one of my hype songs to this day, and if you have never heard it, you are missing out. Out of all of the GOT7 albums and sub-group albums in my collection, this album has to be the most amusing based on the photo concept alone. If you want to see how amusing this album concept is, you can see it here.
Debut as 7 Members: Got It? – January 2014
GOT7 as a group debuted on January 20th, 2014 with seven members: Mark, JB, Jackson, Jinyoung (still as Junior), Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom. Their very first mini-album Got It? had 6 tracks, including the single from this album, “Girls, Girls, Girls“. The single from this album is another incredibly catchy track to which I still watch the music video. And, if you pay close attention, you will see some members of TWICE, like Jeongyeon and Nayeon as extras. If you want to see everything that comes with the album, you can see that here.
Their First Comeback: Got Love – June 2014
After their debut, GOT7 had their first comeback a little over 5 months later on June 23rd, 2014 with the mini-album Got Love this mini-album. This mini-album had 4 tracks, plus 3 remixes of their comeback song, “A”. The music video for this song also featured a future member of TWICE, Sana, as the boys’ “crush”. There is also a feature of some crazy hair on Jinyoung (still using the stage name Junior). The music video and track are very cute. Out of all of the GOT7 comebacks, this is not my favorite, but it does have a warm place in my heart.
First Full Album: Identify – November 2014
Released on November 18th, 2014, Identify is GOT7’s first full album. This album features 10 tracks, one of which is “A” from Got Love? their previous release. The single from this album 하지하지마 (Stop Stop it) is yet again, still a song that years later is still in my playlist, and listened to quite frequently. If you watch the music video for this song, you will see a pre-TWICE Dahyun featured in the music video.
Got7’s Post-“Best New Artist” EP: Just Right – July 2015
After GOT7 won “Best New Artist” at both the Golden Disk and Seoul Music Awards in January of that year, GOT7 came back with their 3rd EP Just Right, featuring 6 completely new songs, and a title track of the same name. I cannot lie, I think out of all of the GOT7 comebacks, this one ranks at the top for me. It is also the first comeback of GOT7 to not feature a member of TWICE in the music video, as by this point they were preparing for their debut in October. The main actress in this song instead, was Jinyoung’s co-actor in the drama My Love Eundong. Just Right is also the group’s music video with the highest number of views. When writing this post, it was approaching 400,000,000 views. This song also was in the top 3 in the Billboard’s World Digital Songs chart for two consecutive weeks.
Return with Mad: The 4th EP – September 2015
On September 29th, 2015, GOT7 returned with their fourth EP, Mad. The lead single on the album 니가하면 (If You Do), was a departure from styles that GOT7 previously showed, as this music video featured a bit more acting, and showed a deeper, more pained side of the group. The girl who is featured in the song is a JYP trainee (who is still a JYP trainee) named Lily M. This song is yet another GOT7 song that has remained on my playlist since I heard it shortly after it came out.
The First Repackage: Mad: Winter Edition – November 2015
GOT7’s first repackage ever was on November 23rd, 2017. With their repackage, Mad: Winter Edition the group added three more songs to the album, including 고백송 (Confession Song, “I Love You” Song), which is an absolutely adorable track. Although not in my playlists, because it does have a Christmas sound to it, you can cat me listening to this song relatively frequently. On top of that, the music video for this is incredibly adorable. The GOT7 boys helped actual high schoolers confess to the girls they liked, and it is precious.
The Flight Log Series: Flight Log: Departure – March 2016
March 21st, 2016, GOT7 returned with the first part of their Flight Log series Flight Log: Departure (there is also a monograph for the album). As GOT7’s 5th EP, they came out with the single “Fly“. This song featured strong, powerful dance moves, with lots of pointing like they are on a runway. This single isn’t my absolute favorite GOT7 single, but it is still in my playlist and I jam out to it whenever it comes on. With this song, GOT7 was the second Korean artist after Psy to enter the Billboard Artist 100 chart at number 45. This album also features the first song that was composed and co-written by Jay B, “Home Run”.
Post-World Tour: Flight Log: Turbulence – September 2016
Over the summer of 2016, GOT7 went on their first world tour “Fly Tour”, and held concerts all over the world. Upon their return, the group released within 2 months of their return their 2nd studio album, Flight Log: Turbulence on September 27th, 2016. This album featured the single “하드캐리 (Hard Carry)“, one of my favorite GOT7 tracks, as well as another one of my favorite GOT7 songs, “MayDay”. These two songs combined were enough for me to feel the need to buy the Monograph for this album. The music video for this song started a whole series of theories coming from fans questioning if all of the members were dead or alive. If you want to watch the whole series, start with Fly, and go forward.
The End of the Series: Flight Log: Arrival – March 2017
The next year, on March 13th, 2017, GOT7 came back with the final part of the Flight Log Series, Flight Log: Arrival. This EP features 8 tracks, including the title track for this comeback, “Never Ever“. The music video for this song added to the theory that most of the members died in a plane crash with the contrast of the white, and the interesting imagery. After this music video’s release, fans were using the imagery to try and describe the way all of the members perished. The monograph for this album includes a DVD that talks about the making of the album and talks a bit about the theory.
The Revival of JJ Project: Verse 2– July 2017
Before GOT7 as a full group returned, on July 31st, 2017, fans were blessed with the return of JJ Project with a mini-album that varied greatly from Bounce called Verse 2. This EP album featured 8 tracks, including the title track “Tomorrow, Today“, which is still one of my favorite songs from members of GOT7. I always consider this album to be a shift in direction for the group to a more mature sound for the group. This is a shift in sound that you can continue to hear in the group’s music after this point.
A Shift in Sound: 7 For 7 – October 2017
After JJ Project graced our ears with their return, on October 10th, 2017, the full group returned with their seventh EP, 7 for 7. This album didn’t have just one title track, but two: “You Are” for the original release and “Teenager” for the repackage. Both of the title tracks have writing and composition credits from Jay B, the leader of the group. Quite frankly, this entire EP from start to finish is amazing, and I would highly recommend that everyone gives a listen to it.
A World Tour Prelude: Eyes on You – March 2018
Before announcing their 2nd World Tour during the summer of 2018, GOT7 released their eighth EP album, Eyes On You on March 12, 2018. The album premiered at number two on the Billboard World album charts and topped the iTunes international album charts in 20 countries. This album featured the single “Look” which is another GOT7 track that continues to be played in my car to this day. If you ever watched things with GOT7 in it from before this album was released, you can actually see the boys subtly practicing some of the dance moves too.
The Third Studio Album: Present: You – September 2018
Shortly after GOT7 returned from their Second World Tour, the group came out with the second full album, Present: You on September 17th, 2018. This album is incredibly special not just because the single from the album, “Lullaby” is incredibly catchy (and I still listen to it), but because this album also features solo tracks from each member. When I saw the group in concert in Toronto over the summer of 2018, a number of these solo tracks were performed, and I was so enthralled to see them on the album. Some of the solo tracks on the album are also in my driving playlist and I jam hardcore when they come on.
The Repackage: Present: You and Me – December 2018
After the successful release of Present: You, GOT7 came back on December 3rd, 2018 with a repackaged album, Present: You & Me, featuring 12 new songs, including the tracklist from the previous version. Many of these songs are from sub-groups within GOT7. This album basically took the remaining songs that were performed at their concert that weren’t on albums and put them on the album. The single for this album “Miracle” is a departure from GOT7’s usual singles, as it is a ballad, very much in line with many of the songs that come out at this time of the year in Korea.
The Second Sub-unit: Jus2 FOCUS – March 2019
In February of 2019, JYP Entertainment began teasing fans with a new GOT7 sub-unit. A month later, on March 4th, JB and Yugyeom came out as Jus2 with their first mini-album Focus. The single from this mini-album, Focus on Me, had a completely different feel than anything else the group produced, as it was much more chill, laid back, but also sexy and sensual at the same time. I really like the different angle, and now that all of the members are at different companies, Jay B and Yugyeom happen to be at “sibling” labels, so we may get to see more collabs between this pair!
The Grand Daesang Award and Call My Name – November 2019
On November 4th, 2019 GOT7 released their 10th mini-album Call My Name which was the first JYP Entertainmentalbum to sell over 100,000 copies in a day. The single off of this album “ 니가 부르는 나의 이름 (You Call My Name)“, which still happens to be one of my favorite GOT7 songs, and I would say that this EP ranks incredibly high for me overall. This album debuted on the Billboard World Album charts at No. 5. A month after this, GOT7 went on to win their first Daesang (Grand Award) at the 4th Asian Artists Awards for Performance of the Year.
Their Final Year with JYP: Dye – April 2020
On April 20th, 2020, GOT7 came out with their eleventh mini-album Dye. The album sold over 450,000 copies, and is their best selling album to date. The single on this album “Not By the Moon” is still one of my absolutely favorite GOT7 songs to this date, and weird fact… I actually had a dream about this concept before this song came out. This album sold 281,791 copies on it’s first day, and broke all of their previous records. It debuted at no. 4 on the Billboard World Album.
The Final JYP Comeback: Breath of Love: Last Piece – November 2020
When it was announced that GOT7 was coming out with their fourth studio album, Breath of Love: Last Piece, there was a bit of uproar around the release. To me, the name “Last Piece” for their single was a dead giveaway that GOT7 wasn’t considering resigning their contracts. Although the song is talking about someone being their “missing last piece” as a person, I also read it as this is their last musical piece. Additionally, there wasn’t much done for GOT7 on the day of the release, and instead, all of it was done my the members, mainly Mark Tuan. That being said, those who said they did absolutely nothing, if you check the JYP Nation Twitter, they did at least post something there. That being said, I do really like the album, including their pre-release single “Breath“.
GOT7 Leaves JYP – 2021
On January 10th, 2021, it was announced that GOT7’s exclusive contract with JYP was set to expire on January 19th, and that all of the members had chosen to not resign, and all the members went their separate ways, signing with separate agencies. On February 20th, 2021 a new channel popped up under the name of GOT7, featuring music video called “Encore“. After a bit of investigation, it appears that even with the disbandment of the group, JYP only has the right to register and use intellectual property relating to the name “GOT7” while the members are still signed with the agency. The members are now signed to the following agencies:
Member | Agency |
---|---|
Mark | Mark Tuan Studio (China Activitites) Creative Artists Agency |
Jay B | H1gher Music |
Jackson | Team Wang (China Activities) Sublime Artist Agency (Partnership for Korean Activities) |
Jinyoung | BH Entertainment |
Youngjae | Sublime Artist Agency |
BamBam | Abyss Company |
Yugyeom | AOMG |
GOT7 Returns as One under WMG:GOT7 The EP -May 2022
Released on May 23rd, 2022, GOT7 released their 12th mini-album, this time of the same name as the group. They didn’t want to forget their roots but also wanted to take the time to rebrand and have a fresh start. Featuring the title track “Nanana”, the album sold 187 thousand copies on its first day and charted in 8 different countries.
