Album Review: GOT7 (갓세븐) Eyes on You

got

OMG GOT7 has come out with new music. I am so pumped. I, personally am a massive GOT7 fan. They are super dorky, and adorable and lovable. So every single time they come out with new music, I have to preorder it, and listen to it the day it comes out. Today, they released a new EP called Eyes on You.

I also do a lot of my album shopping on Music Plaza LA. Additionally, if you have never used Music Plaza before, this link will get you an extra 5% off of your first purchase!

You can also order a copy of the album from an eBay, as they typically have good prices. Plus, with eBay, you can save a little bit of money by using the E-Bates extension on your browser, as it will save you 2% on all album purchases, which definitely adds up.

What is E-Bates?

E-Bates is a cashback site that gives you money for purchases you may have already made. They even have an extension for multiple browsers so when you go to a website that uses Ebates, it will automatically pop up the cashback button to make sure you are saving money. I use this all the time, and I got over 80$ back from them for purchases I was going to make anyway. That’s about 3 more albums I can buy!

If you’ve never used EBates before, you can use this link to get $10 when making a qualified purchase of $25 when using EBates. You will also get whatever percent cashback is being offered from the site you are purchasing from.  Sephora, typically has 4% cashback, through here. Sokoglam typically has 3%. These percentages Many other major retailers are on there as well.

Got7 Eyes on You, Track by Track:

  1. 녀 하나면 (feat. 효린): So this track was actually pre-released about a week to week and a half before the actual album. I think this is one of the first times that GOT7 has ever featured another artist on their album as well. So this is exciting, especially because it is Hyolyn that they are featuring, She’s a musical powerhouse. I love her. JB wrote the lyrics for this song too, so YAY! The song definitely has a bit more of a sexy sound to it. The vocalists use lots of slides. Honestly, I really like the harmonies and dynamics that they use throughout the song.
  2. Look: Okay, this song has me feeling all sorts of ways… I LOVE this song. I legit played this song on repeat like 15 times this morning. It is so good. I love it. And the music video is amazing too. I watched that 4 times before 8 AM. Clearly, I’m in love with this song. It really is just so good. Okay. Fangirling done. The song itself is much more electronic than the previous track, but the two flow together seamlessly. Overall, this track really just makes me want to hardcore dance like crazy
  3. The Reason: So they take the tempo down a little bit for this song, but they bring in similar vibes from the previous song (as well as the last album 7 for 7) with the guitar in the background. Honestly, this song is super chill. I enjoy it. Is it as good as “Look”? No. Of course not. that song is amazing. But their vocals are hella on point, and they hit those high notes like a boss in the song. Yet again, in this track, you can hear GOT7’s authentic sound coming through instead of what JYP gave them previously.
  4. 망설이다: Aight, this song is super interesting. I really love how GOT7 has now begun to mix acoustic sounds with more electric sounds. I think it suits their personality. When the bass comes in at the chorus…. yes…If this is the direction that GOT7, I’m 100% cool with it. This song is really chill again. They also have some great harmonies throughout the song.
  5. 우리: Okay. That bass though… So the main thing that I’ve noticed through listening to this album is that instead of creating massive ragers as GOT7 did before, GOT7 is really trying to highlight themselves now. This song makes it very apparent. The tracks are a lot more simple in regards to the background track, and the vocals are balanced at a much higher volume than they used to be (note, some of this could be my headphones). Either way.  This new direction that they have gone in is just yes.
  6. 고마워: They went basically straight up acoustic for this song. I love it. I also love how everyone is releasing thank you songs now, and they are all so drastically different. So this song. It has a slower tempo. The harmonies are on point.  I love the mix of the acoustic and electric guitar. Basically, I love how stripped back the whole thing is. You will like it too. It’s a great way to end the EP.

K-Points: 622/5

So I really love how GOT7 has a hand in every single track on this album, as they have writing creds on every single track. It’s about time. I also think that the flow of the album is great. Overall, this new direction that GOT7 has gone in after the Flight Log series is actually amazing. I think it has a bit more of a raw sound, and it really showcases GOT7 as individuals, instead of as a dance group. And since they are entering their mid-20s (like me), it’s about time that they have a bit more of a mature sound. I personally cannot find anything wrong with the album as a whole It was put together well, and every track is great.

Should you get this mini-album? Absolutely. I think the tracks are amazing, and I think you all will too. It really fits into the GOT7 world that they have begun to rebuild with JJ Project last summer. It’s much more laid back, but still has that GOT7 energy at the exact same time. I’m definitely excited to see what else they bring us going forward, now that they have more control.
