Album Review : CLC Black Dress Mini Album

clc

So CLC did a thing this morning and released a new mini-album. I did not plan on writing this post initially, but I felt that it must be done, as the title track had my socks totally blown off.  I did not purchase a physical copy of this EP yet, still not sure if I am going to, as girl groups don’t typically do it for me in the desire to have a photo book category unless you are one of my female stan groups. But Black Dress is fire, and CLC has a habit of always surprising me. First, there was HobGoblin, and now they bring us, Black Dress.

I do a lot of my album shopping on Music Plaza LA. Additionally, if you have never used Music Plaza before, this link will get you an extra 5% off of your first purchase!

You can also order a copy of the album from an eBay, as they typically have good prices. Plus, with eBay, you can save a little bit of money by using the E-Bates extension on your browser, as it will save you 2% on all album purchases, which definitely adds up.

What is E-Bates?

E-Bates is a cashback site that gives you money for purchases you may have already made. They even have an extension for multiple browsers so when you go to a website that uses Ebates, it will automatically pop up the cashback button to make sure you are saving money. I use this all the time, and I got over 80$ back from them for purchases I was going to make anyway. That’s about 3 more albums I can buy!

If you’ve never used EBates before, you can use this link to get $10 when making a qualified purchase of $25 when using EBates. You will also get whatever percent cashback is being offered from the site you are purchasing from.  Sephora, typically has 4% cashback, through here. Sokoglam typically has 3%. These percentages Many other major retailers are on there as well.

CLC Black Dress, Track by Track:

  1. Black Dress: Okay, I have listened to this track about ten times now, and I love it every time. It has a total lady killer vibe, which is where I think CLC really excels and shows off how truly awesome they are. Their vocals are solid in the song. The harmonies are great. the bass in the background really keeps the song moving. I personally cannot help but dance and want to behave completely ratchet every single time I hear this song. It definitely has a future electronic, club song vibe to it, but it also has these moments where some of the harmonies they are doing have a little bit more of a reggae chord style but done to club music. It truly is a unique and different song, and it made it into my playlist, cause dis shit is good.
  2. Like That: I’m assuming this song is the second title track of the album. This song definitely starts off with more of an R&B vibe which breaks into a sick rap section, and then eventually morphs into an awesome lady killer song, especially when you get to the breakdown section because it has serious body roll potential. The harmonies are yet again solid, and quite frankly I think this is something that CLC does well on consistently.
  3. Distance: This song  (IMO) is just OK, especially in comparison to the first two tracks. I really don’t have much to say about this track besides the fact that it reminds me of an old Spice Girls track. If you do not know who the Spice Girls are, you are missing out. They are my childhood and I love them. yet again, even if I don’t like this song as much, these girls know how to harmonize.
  4. To the Sky: This song sounds generic as well as if it should be used for background music to a TV show for teenagers. It is definitely more of a filler song, and I would never make this a title track. It is also one of those songs that you could definitely listen to as a feel-good peppy song when getting ready in the morning to make sure you have a good day.
  5. 7th: Okay, by now you should all know that I will always 100% crusade those who cannot ballad, and shockingly, this ballad is decent. They have a little bit of white noise when they sing, but that doesn’t bother me because they have such good harmonies in the background. I also like how the use the ukulele in the song. The only thing that is weird about this song is the rap section. I get it, they want to make sure everyone has a part, but it definitely doesn’t match the style of the song, and it breaks the rhythm.

K-Points: 422/5

Could this be the highest score that a girl group has received this far? I think so… Honestly, CLC did a really good job. Their harmonies were tight in every single track, and that is a large part of the reason that they are getting above the average score. I was quite impressed with the mini-album as a whole. This is one of the more solid female releases of the year so far.

Now, will I buy a physical copy of this album? No. This is mainly because at the end of the day, it will not be an album that I will be like LOOK WHAT I BOUGHT in my collection album, and it also is not a group where I have any desire to stare at pictures of them doing things, as I like boys and you are not boys that I want to stare at doing the things even if they are strange (like anything GOT7 related right now because they announced their World Tour and I’m hyperventilating). I do still really like the album though. I will just stream it instead.

What artist’s album are you guys hyperventilating over right now, K-Nuggets? Let me know in the comments!

사랑합니다!
