Album Review: Super Junior Replay (Repackage)

super junior

If you have rad any of my previous posts, you would know that I am a HUGE Super Junior fan. I have most of their merchandise, including the lightstick, copies of most of their albums, a lot of their DVDs, The Seasons Greetings Package, and even their photobooks from thier trip to Hawaii. So, when they decided to repackage Play, I was soooo on that train that it’s ridiculous. The original version is one of my favorite albums to date, to the point that it made my Top 10 K-Pop Albums Worth Buying post and I even died over the packaging of the Special Edition version of it in this post. Basically, I love Super Junior. They are 100% strange, which makes them 100% relatable.

I personally purchased a copy of the special edition packaging of the album on Choice Music for $27.99, plus shipping (you can get that here). You can also get a copy of the regular version here on Choice for $19.99 plus shipping. Update: I do not shop at Choice Music anymore due to a bad customer service experience. I now do a lot of my shopping on Music Plaza LA. Additionally, if you have never used Music Plaza before, this link will get you an extra 5% off of your first purchase!

If you prefer Amazon, here is the special edition for $42.99 and here is the regular version for $27.89.

You can also order a copy of the album from an eBay, as they typically have good prices. Plus, with eBay, you can save a little bit of money by using the E-Bates extension on your browser, as it will save you 2% on all album purchases, which definitely adds up.

What is E-Bates?

E-Bates is a cashback site that gives you money for purchases you may have already made. They even have an extension for multiple browsers so when you go to a website that uses Ebates, it will automatically pop up the cashback button to make sure you are saving money. I use this all the time, and I got over 80$ back from them for purchases I was going to make anyway. That’s about 3 more albums I can buy!

If you’ve never used EBates before, you can use this link to get $10 when making a qualified purchase of $25 when using EBates. You will also get whatever percent cashback is being offered from the site you are purchasing from.  Sephora, typically has 4% cashback, through here. Sokoglam typically has 3%. These percentages Many other major retailers are on there as well.

Super Junior Replay Track by Track:

There are 4 new tracks being added to this album, plus Super Duper, which was released as a part of SM station, and Shadowless, which was released on the Special Edition of Play (Pause). Two of the tracks are different versions of Lo Siento (The KARD version is album exclusive, so I haven’t heard it yet). Let’s get into the review.

  1. Lo Siento (Leslie Grace): Going for the latin vibes today.  I really enjoy this song, and I love the guitar through the whole track. It adds a seriously sexy feel to the song.  Something that is hilarious to me: SUJU looks like Leslie Grace’s back up dancers in the Music Video. They are definitely way better dancers than her though. She got that body though. At the end of the day though, there are just parts of that track that just don’t sit with me. I’m definitely not a fan of how they added they added the super deep bass, and I actually think the pitch that they picked for it subtracts from the latin flair, and not in a good way. Other than that, I love the harmonies that they added to the track. It did make it in the playlist.
  2. Me & U: Why do both this track and the previous track start with Siwon? Like really…. Other than being like, wny you gotta start with Siwon, who isn’t that strong of a vocalist, I do really like this song, and I actually like it more than the title track. I feel like a music video for this track would be super artsy, playing with the camera with lots of fun colors. I also love the swing, happy vibe this song has. It’s really easy to dance to. I also really like how the message of it, is basically that he’s there for you no matter what. It’s cute. I like that. This is also in the playlist.
  3. Super Duper: Okay, since this track came out a few weeks ago, it is constantly stuck in my head. Not only is it one of the dumbest songs I have ever heard, but I am actually in love with it. It is one of those ridiculous songs that you makes you want to shuffle around a do a really stupid dance (CURSE YOU SUPER JUNIOR!!!). I honestly cannot think of a way to describe this track. It’s super electronic, but not like a song you would hear in a club. It is more like a strut down the street song (although I would totally jam to this in a club, cause I’m ridiculous). I have nothing but great things to say about this stupid track. I love how ridiculous it is, and I actually listen to just this track on repeat, like a weirdo.
  4. 안아줄게(Hug): Yesung helped write the lyrics for this track which means I automatically love it. Cause I love him to the point he is hanging on my wall. OF course because he took part in writing the song, it’s a ballad too. Yesung is the king of the ballad. All of his solo work is more ballad-y and he doesn’t really do uptempo songs, so this makes sense. I love how the track starts with just a guitar and Yesung, with the other members backing him up with harmonies. Feature my boy, people. He’s the shit. What I will say about this track, it’s very apparent that the other vocalists are off doing their military service, as this track really highlights that Yesung is the strongest singer out of all of the ones who are there. It’s definitely a nice song though, and I love a Yesung heavy ballad.

K-Points: 479/5

For a repackage, where the rest of the album was previously released, this one isn’t too bad! I had really high expectations, and the only let down for me was actually the title track. I really like it, but it isn’t my favorite release I have heard of late, and quite honestly, Black Suit is still my jam, and will forever be my SUJU jam that created my love for Yesung (side note: I miss his black hair. He looks better that way). That song is just hard to beat, and this one didn’t beat it for me.

Should you buy this album? I haven’t received my physical copy yet, but the teaser images looked great. Not as good as the original version, as you cannot go wrong with men in suits, but it still looked worthy of purchasing, even if it is just for the extra tracks that are album only, like the KARD version of Lo Siento. Can you just stream it? Yeah, if you don’t care about pictures of men in their 30’s like I do, you don’t need to buy a copy of it. I do though… hence the buying of the special edition version (which you will all see at a later date).

What is your favorite track that was added for the repackage? Let me know in the comments, K-Nuggets!

사랑합니다!
