Album Review: Seventeen Director’s Cut

seventeen director s cut

I have been looking forward to this since the day that it was announced, and the day has finally come, Seventeen has new music to share with the world. This is an album that I purchased without hesitation, because Seventeen never fails to disappoint. They have released a 4-track mini-album called Director’s Cut that is part of the repackage of Teen,Age. It came out today, February 5th, and I am going to say that they gave me an early Valentine’s Day present because they love me as much as I love them. I’m only going to talk about the 4 new tracks because otherwise I will just be raving on and on and on about how good the whole thing is.

I do a lot of my album shopping on Music Plaza LA. Additionally, if you have never used Music Plaza before, this link will get you an extra 5% off of your first purchase!

You can also order a copy of the album from an eBay, as they typically have good prices. Plus, with eBay, you can save a little bit of money by using the E-Bates extension on your browser, as it will save you 2% on all album purchases, which definitely adds up.

What is E-Bates?

E-Bates is a cashback site that gives you money for purchases you may have already made. They even have an extension for multiple browsers so when you go to a website that uses Ebates, it will automatically pop up the cashback button to make sure you are saving money. I use this all the time, and I got over 80$ back from them for purchases I was going to make anyway. That’s about 3 more albums I can buy!

If you’ve never used EBates before, you can use this link to get $10 when making a qualified purchase of $25 when using EBates. You will also get whatever percent cashback is being offered from the site you are purchasing from.  Sephora, typically has 4% cashback, through here. Sokoglam typically has 3%. These percentages Many other major retailers are on there as well.

Seventeen Director’s Cut, Track by Track:

  1. Thinkin’ About You: This track is super catchy. I love the electric guitar that they use through the whole song, and how they build on top of it by slowly adding layer after layer to the song. It really helps the song to move, even with some of the repetitions that they added to the song (ex. When they repeat Thinkin’ About You over and over again). I also love how the group plays with harmonies in this song, honestly, I think Seventeen is one of the groups that is the strongest out there when it comes to vocal harmonies, and this song reinforces it. Just like the entirety of Teen, Age, this song fits the album very well.
  2. 고맙다 (Thank You): This is the title track of the repackage, and it’s hella catchy. I also watched the music video of this song this morning. It’s lit. You need to watch it. My favorite part about this song is how they played with the rhythms to build the song. If you listen closely, you can hear how they play with different instruments so some of them are on the beat, while others are off. This is also another great example of Seventeen’s harmonizing abilities. The harmonies are so good in this song that they give me the chills. Seventeen did it again… they slew the K-Pop industry, and they’re all younger than me.
  3. 지금 널 찾아가고 있어 (Run to You):  So you think this song is going to be a ballad when you first hear it, but you couldn’t be more wrong. This song is actually very different for Seventeen, as it is very electric guitar-heavy. It actually reminds me of a theme song that you would hear at the beginning of some Anime. This isn’t my favorite track on the repackage, but their harmonies are still as one point as ever. The only reason this song doesn’t do it for me is that it sounds like something I’ve heard before on some random Anime. The song still gets top marks from me though.
  4. Falling For You: Now we are ballad-ing out. This song, to be honest, is just super cute. It’s very stripped back, and the instrumentation is very simple, so it really highlights the lyrics and their vocals. It’s pretty good. It isn’t my favorite track on the album, but it is the perfect transition into the Intro from Teen, Age because it is so stripped back and simply that the instrumentation doesn’t compete with the original album they are adding to.

K-Points: 826/5

Okay, so the original version of this album is probably one of my favorite albums ever, and I didn’t think that they could make that album any better, but they somehow did just that. They messed with perfection and managed to surpass perfection, which I have only ever seen done one other time, and that was when EXO repackaged the War and came out with Power of Music, and I almost peed my pants at how good it was. If Seventeen can replicate what EXO has done, while writing their own music, creating their own choreography, and generally doing like everything, they’re fire.

Do you need this album? Yes, absolutely. Can you stream it? Yes, because I don’t know what the photobooks look like yet to tell you if you need them or not. , but I don’t know how they can outdo the photo books from Teen, Age (there will be a post on that in the next month or so… be on the lookout). Good job, yet again, Seventeen. Write me a song called Hurricane, Woozi because you guys blow me away every time.

K-Nuggets, do you think Seventeen is as much of a Level 10 boss as I do? Let me know in the comments below.

사랑합니다!
