Mamonde Calendula Calming Hydro Sleeping Mask Review

Mamonde Calming Hydro Sleeping Mask scaled

I told you that this was coming, and it is finally here! My K-Beauty reviews are back. If you watch my Youtube channel, you will know that I was holding off on posting any K-Beauty reviews. I had an allergic reaction to a product. Because of that, I didn’t want to post anything until I had it narrowed down what it was from. That being said, I wanted to get this post up anyways and share my thoughts with you all. So, today we will be talking about the Mamonde Calendula Calming Hydro Sleeping Mask

Whenever I buy K-Beauty, I do shop at a couple of different places. If you want to see all of the places that I shop at, you can check them all out here. For the Mamonde Calendula Calming Hydro Sleeping Mask, in particular, that was purchased from Ulta a few months back. From what I can see, that particular product wasn’t currently on Ulta’s website. That being said they still had a bunch of other Mamonde Products you can try. With Ulta, you can also use E-Bates for cash back off of your purchases on their site.

What is E-Bates?

E-Bates is a cashback site that gives you money for purchases you may have already made. They even have an extension for multiple browsers so when you go to a website that uses Ebates, it will automatically pop up the cashback button to make sure you are saving money. I use this all the time, and I got over 80$ back from them for purchases I was going to make anyway. That’s about 3 more albums I can buy!

If you’ve never used EBates before, you can use this link to get $10 when making a qualified purchase of $25 when using EBates. You will also get whatever percent cashback is being offered from the site you are purchasing from.  Sephora, typically has 4% cashback, through here. Sokoglam typically has 3%. These percentages Many other major retailers are on there as well.

Things to know about the Mamonde Calendula Calming Hydro Sleeping Mask:

This product is formulated with the following ingredients that are good for your skin:

  • Centella Asiatica is an ingredient has soothing and healing properties
  • Calendula is known for Anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties
  • Citric Acid is a Chemical Exfoliant (AHA or Alpha Hydroxy Acid). Alpha Hydroxy Acids speed up cell turnover so that you see new skin sooner.
  • Aloe – Calming ingredient, but for some it can be mildly irritating.

This product is formulated with the following ingredients that are “bad” for your skin:

  • Alcohol/Ethanol makes creams feel lighter and helps them penetrate the skin better. The downside to this though is that it can really dry out your skin.
  • Fragrance and essential oils can cause irritation to the skin. Additionally, companies don’t have to disclose what the ingredients are in the fragrance. I also find this concerning.

K-Points: 5/10

So, for beauty reviews, unlike my album unboxings, I will be much harsher on because this can directly impact your health, where buying K-Pop albums does not. It just impacts your wallet. As such, all of my beauty reviews will be out of 10 points. I will not be going over that number.

The reason that the Mamonde Calendula Calming Hydro Sleeping Mask is only getting a 5 out of 10 is because of the formula. After water, the second ingredient in this product is alcohol/ethanol. All of the good ingredients mentioned above are in much lower concentrations. Since they are in lower concentrations, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are ineffective. All it means is that there may not be enough to do much.

Additionally, this product has very high levels of fragrance in it. When you smell it, this is very obvious. Yes, it smells amazing, but I wouldn’t want to use too many products like this on my skin in fear of it breaking out. On top of that, this product has real chunks of flowers in it which I don’t like. If you are applying this product, there is a chance that you get big bits of flowers on your face and they just rub. It’s not a comfortable experience. Believe me.

Most importantly, in comparison to other sleeping masks I’ve tried, I’m not a fan. Besides the scratchy flowers, this product just doesn’t feel hydrating. For a sleeping mask, it dries far too quickly for my liking and I don’t see enough benefit. I would have loved to see some hyaluronic acid added to the product. Hyaluronic Acid is a humectant that draws water to the skin to keep it moist. It also is one of my favorite ingredients.

What are the Koreans saying?

I was digging through reviews on 화해**, a Korean skincare app that lists out the ingredients of products from many brands for people to look through as well as post reviews. All of the Koreans who were posting about this product agreed that it didn’t have a good formulation, and I agree with those Koreans. So, I think most likely it was pulled from the shelves for either a reformulation or just discontinued.

The benefit of Korean skincare is that many people in Korea really care about their skin. As a result of this, the industry is very cut-throat. If a product doesn’t have a good formula or someone reacted negatively to it, the product is quickly pulled from the shelves. It’s one of the many things that I appreciate about the culture.

Are there any sleeping masks you are loving right now, K-Nuggets? Let me know in the comments down below!

사랑합니다!

**Note: 화해 still only exists in Korean, but some of the products can be searched for in English.
