Seventeen You Make My Day Album Review

seventeen you make my day

You have no idea how excited I am for Seventeen to come back with all new music! They are back, and this time it is with Seventeen You Make My Day. This is their 5th mini-album. After how wonderful Teen, age and Director’s Cut (unboxing and album review here) were (although I do prefer the former to the latter), it is nice that they are putting out music again, as the last release was at the beginning of February!

I did pre-order copies of this album, as Seventeen has yet to disappoint me musically, off of Choice Music. You can get a set of all 3 versions of the album here for $50.99, plus shipping, which isn’t bad. You can also get one for $17.99 plus shipping here. On Amazon, you can pick up one from$20.50 plus free shipping as a Prime member here.

If you don’t have Amazon Prime, you can get a 30 day free trial using this link here. I will not lie, the free 2 day shipping, plus all of the free music and videos are totally worth it. I also now use it for books for my Kindle paper white too, and it is honestly a life saver. They have a program called Kindle Unlimited where you can check out 10 books at a time, read them, and put them back in the kindle library. The program cost $7.99 a month, and you get the first 30 days for free with this link.

Seventeen You Make My Day Track by Track:

어퍼나 (Oh My!)

You can tell it is the middle of the summer. We are getting every single island flare track under the sun. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as I can definitely appreciate different songs at different times of the year. What I like about this track: It feels like a completely different track from anything else that I have heard Seventeen put out.  It’s still electronic, which is their typical style, but it is a bit lighter. It’s a great concept change, and I really enjoy it. This song did make it into my playlists.

Holiday

We’ve got some jazz flute in this song! I’m not sure why, but jazz flute has become one of my new favorite things. If you read my BTS Love Yourself: Tear review, I talked about how much I like it there as well. I also really enjoy the electric guitar and electric bass in this track. Overall, I really enjoy this track. Seventeen has always excelled at producing top notch “dancy-fancy” songs. What I mean by that is that they excel at making me want to jam out and dance like a dork. So good job boys. This song did make it into the playlists.

나에게로 와 (Come to Me)

Okay, I dig the piano chords and snapping in this song. The vocal team throughout this track use light, accented, and breathy vocals. This is nice to hear because it shows off a different flavor to these usually powerhouse vocalists, like what we heard in the first 2 tracks. Although the vocal harmonies in this song aren’t complex, as the  max number of parts I hear for vocal splits is 4, plus a descant. They do an excellent job of using all of the members vocal strengths throughout the song. Good job vocal team.

What’s Good

Hip hop team time! This time the hip hop team put out a track with a bit of a funk flair. I love the bass line throughout this track! It really helps give the groove to the track. In comparison to the previous 3 tracks, this is my least favorite track thus far. I still enjoy it, but it doesn’t propel forward like I like music to. It is definitely cute though, a concept Seventeen does quite well. This song didn’t make it into my playlists, but this is mainly based on personal preference.

Moonwalker

Performance team has a habit of getting me every time with their killer dance tracks. Per usual, they did it again. I love this track. It makes me want to move and groove. I am internally praying that we get to see the choreography video for this, like we do for every other performance team track. Let’s be honest, I live for those. The tracks for the performance team may not be super innovative, but man are they catchy and easy to dance to. This did make it into the playlists, and I can guarantee you that i will be attempting my best Michael Jackson that will end in a very clumsy way listening to this track.

우리의 새벽은 낮보다 뜨겁다 (Our Dawn is Hotter than Day)

I feel like this track is a great conclusion to their summer mini-album. I like the light back tracking with soft piano chords, and light guitar. I really enjoy how simple this track is. It puts emphasis on the vocals and the lyrics, as that is the part they want you to pay attention to. They even go a cappella in unison at points in the track. I will note that when they are singing “Oh Summer” on repeat, it sounds like they are repeating the Korean word for smile or laugh. This may be intentional, it may not be. Either way the track is cute. I like it.

K-Points: 588/5

Honestly, all of the songs on this track were excellently done! Even though the hip hop team’s track isn’t my favorite, musically I still enjoy it. Things that I really enjoy about this mini-album is that it shows many different flavors to Seventeen while still making the album sound cohesive. On top of that, Seventeen does most of their own production (with the help of Bumzu), which is even more impressive.

Should you purchase a copy of this mini-album? Absolutely. Seventeen are incredibly talented and any of their albums are great to have. Can you just stream it? Absolutely! The music is still phenomenal and truly enjoyable. Albums are expensive. Only buy them if you can afford them.

What is your favorite track off of this comeback, K-Nuggets? Let me know in the comments below!
