EXO Love Shot Review

EXO Love Shot

My boys have flipped this around fast! EXO has already returned with the repackage of Don’t Mess Up My Tempo. This time, our ears will be graced with EXO Love Shot. I saw the teaser images, and I am already shook. The boys were practically shirtless, and it was a beautiful sight to behold.

I ordered both copies of the album from a K-Pop Store in the USA. This is a link to the exact ones I’ve ordered. I got both copies for $54.99 plus free shipping. Plus, with eBay, you can save a little bit of money by using the E-Bates extension on your browser, as it will save you 2% on all album purchases, which definitely adds up.

What is E-Bates?

E-Bates is a cashback site that gives you money for purchases you may have already made. They even have an extension for multiple browsers so when you go to a website that uses Ebates, it will automatically pop up the cashback button to make sure you are saving money. I use this all the time, and I got over 80$ back from them for purchases I was going to make anyways. That’s about 3 more albums I can buy!

If you’ve never used EBates before, you can use this link to get $10 when making a qualified purchase of $25 when using EBates. You will also get whatever percent cashback is being offered from the site you are purchasing from.  Sephora, typically has 4% cashback, through here. Sokoglam typically has 3%. These percentages Many other major retailers are on there as well.

Can I get it on Amazon?

Yes! You can pick up a copy using this link here for 24 dollars (not as good of a deal), with free shipping if you have Amazon Prime.

If you don’t have Amazon Prime, you can get a 30-day free trial using this link here. I will not lie, the free 2-day shipping, plus all of the free music and videos are totally worth it. I also now use it for books for my Kindle Paper White too, and it is honestly a life saver. They have a program called Kindle Unlimited where you can check out 10 books at a time, read them, and put them back in the Kindle library. The program cost $7.99 a month, and you get the first 30 days for free with this link.

How do I read this post?

I recommend that you put the album on in the background, and read through it while listening to the track that I am talking about. It will help you understand what parts of the music I’m referring to when I talk about different instruments and different vocal parts. This is what I recommend for all of my song reviews.

As this is a repackage, I will only be writing reviews on the new songs on this album. If you would like to read my thoughts on the remaining tracks, you can do so here

EXO Love Shot Track By Track:

Love Shot

So, I actually already posted my reaction to the music video. If you would like to watch it you can do so here:

The music track itself has a very slight tropical vibe to it based upon the instrumentation that they chose. This track is also written by Chen and Chanyeol. The track also feels like something he would write. Even then, they shifted this slight tropical sound into a slightly more electronic vibe by doing some modulation on the instrumentation.

I absolutely love that this track was written in a minor key. I also love the syncopation to the vocal line. It adds interest when the instrumentation is on-beat. As noted in my video, I absolutely adore the vocal slides that they do in the chorus. It adds that sexy feel to the track, and when coupled with those body rolls, it is actually ridiculous. This track is a complete shift in style from Tempo, and I completely love it. Both tracks are different, but the overall feel to them is what ties them together.

트라마 (Trauma)

Okay, I love the latin flair to the instrumentation in this track. It starts of strong with some gorgeous guitar chords that are contrasted with all of the la’s that they are singing. If you are wearing headphones, you will also hear how they played with the music by switching the vocal line from left to right on the stereo sound. It’s really interesting, and will make your ear drums say “what is happening right now!”

Overall, I am a huge fan of this track. The harmonization of the vocals on the track is phenomenal, as is standard for EXO. I also love how complex the instrumentation is on this track. In contrast with the last track where most of the instrumentation was on beat, this track really plays with rhythm and builds different patterns with each instrument. They then pull these layers in and out as the song progresses. This makes this track a very nice treat for my ears.

Wait

Are we getting an acoustic track? This is exciting! EXO’s vocal line is very powerful. By stripping the instrumentation back, and making the track raw, you can truly see how talented they all are. This track’s instrumentation is gorgeously simple. Because of this, it allows the group to be these gorgeous, complex stacked harmonies.

So, I’m not going to go on too much about how beautiful the harmonies are throughout this track. What I will say, this track is a perfect example of why I love EXO. The caliber of the musicians in the group is just phenomenal. Their vocals are always phenomenal, and I wouldn’t be shocked if Chanyeol is playing the guitar in the track.

K-Points: 537/5

Per usual, we all know that I am extremely biased towards EXO, as they are my absolute favorite K-Pop group out there. There is a very good reason for that though. When it comes to music, EXO, vocally speaking is very gifted. I have never heard them produce a track where the vocals are off. They are consistently on point. On top of that, even the rappers have decent voices.

So should you get yourself a copy of this album? I personally am of the belief that you can never go wrong with EXO. If you haven’t purchased a copy of Don’t Mess Up My Tempo, get the repackage. Should you stream it? Absolutely. There is no question about it. Every EXO track that I’ve heard is done extremely well musically.

Which EXO track is your favorite, K-Nuggets? Let me know in the comments below!

사랑합니다!
